Success is often measured in marks and percentages. But sometimes, behind every number lies a story of resilience, courage and determination that deserves to be celebrated far beyond the classroom.

This year, as students across the country celebrated their ICSE results, one story stood out for its quiet strength and extraordinary perseverance. Ayushi Ghosh of Julien Day School Howrah secured an impressive 89.8% in her ICSE examinations, proving that challenges can never define the limits of human potential.

Ayushi lives with cone-rod dystrophy, a rare genetic condition that has severely affected her vision. According to doctors, she has experienced nearly 75% vision loss. Tasks many students take for granted, such as reading from the blackboard or revising answers during an examination, have never been simple for her.

At times, she has had to hold her books just a few centimetres away from her eyes to read what was written. Even during examinations, revising answers became difficult because her handwriting would often appear too small for her to read clearly. Yet, despite these obstacles, Ayushi never allowed adversity to overshadow her determination to learn.

Behind her achievement lies years of unwavering dedication, patience and support from her family and school community. Her mother, Mrs. Samarpita Ghosh, spent countless hours reading lessons aloud while Ayushi listened carefully, understood concepts and memorised them through sheer focus and commitment.

The results speak volumes about her perseverance. Ayushi scored 93 in Mathematics and Bengali, 92 in English, and 91 in Computer Applications, an accomplishment that reflects not only academic excellence, but also remarkable inner strength.

Her journey is also a reminder of the importance of a supportive educational environment. The school, teachers and leadership at Julien Day School Howrah stood beside her throughout her academic journey, ensuring that she received encouragement and understanding every step of the way. From classroom support to examination assistance provided by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, every effort helped create an environment where determination could thrive.
